North Downtown Sanitary Sewer Separation - OPW 53885

Overview

The project area located South of Nicholas Street, North of Izard Street and between N. 11th Street and N. 14th Street is in a low-lying area below the historic Missouri River Channel. The area has a history of poor drainage and is at much greater risk of flooding during times of high Missouri River elevations. The project area currently has sanitary sewer services discharging into the Izard Street combined gravity sewer system. There have been operational sanitary sewer service challenges in this area due to high Missouri River water levels and the age and condition of the Izard Street Pump Station No. 1, which pumps the sanitary flow into the downstream sewers.

This project is part of City of Omaha multiple improvements to the drainage system in the area to support current and future development projects.

OBJECTIVE

The goal of this project is to provide a more reliable sanitary sewer service and improve street flooding during high river elevations in the area. The planned improvements are:

  • Sanitary Sewer Separation: Isolate the sanitary sewers from the combined system and construct new sanitary sewer lines along Nicholas, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets and manholes.
  • Storm Sewer Separation: Construct new storm sewer lines and manholes on 12th and 13th Streets and Northeast of 12th and Nicholas.

Schedule
